How To Promote A Website Using Links

By Jorjeo Iveniscovich | November 1, 2009 | Popularity: 1% (?)

There are many different aspects of search engine optimization or SEO. SEO of course being the process of moving a website up to the top end of the search results. One of the oldest techniques in the book and still the most important is link building.

In the time that search engine optimization has been an industry of note, there have been many changes to the intricate techniques that people use to achieve the results, however the general aim and the fundamental way in which it is achieved has not changed, and that fundamental process is link building, and although the way links are built has changed, the fact that they are an essential part of SEO remains the same. There are two kinds of links that web masters can build, and these are:

1. One way links

2. Reciprocal links

As one can probably guess from the name, a one way link is a link that goes from one site to another, and that’s it, whereas a reciprocal link is where two different sites link to each other in an attempt to benefit both of them. However, search engines are now sophisticated enough to detect reciprocal links and they don’t particularly like them because they mean that a mutual agreement has been made between those sites and that they are trying to force their way up the ranks, and so they are not worth as much as one-way links.

Link building is a very specialized field and unlike what a lot of people think, they don’t come easy! Just going on to a forum or a blog and putting up a few back links leading to your sites in the comments column is not link building. High quality links are built from blogs and websites which have a high page rank, and they are not easy to find! The Catch 22 situation here is that the minute search engines sense that a particular high PR website is putting up too many links, the page rank comes down! So the webmaster should be wise enough to strike a balance between page rank and the number of links he has on the site.

You will want to hire a good search engine optimizer who can guide you through the uncertain terrain easily and professionally so as to avoid doing something that the search engines disapprove of and getting your site thrown out of the rankings altogether!
