A Paramedic is someone with a host of talents and skill you have to be smart, strong and be able to respond quickly if you are a Paramedic. Paramedic training is hard and strenuous work. Paramedic training is offered in a various of places such as your local community college or online.

There are a series of steps to becoming a Paramedic the first part is you must take the EMT basic class. The EMT basic class will teach you basic life skills such as the heimlach, CPR and how to handle a trauma situation when one arises. Before being able to pass this class you must have your shots up to date, be able to pass a drug screening and have a CPR certification.

The second step to the Paramedic program is the EMT intermediate, this class is a little more in depth as far as the procedures you will learn how to do and drugs that you will be required to learn. You must still have a CPR certification, set of shots and be able to pass a drug screening. The EMT intermediate class also requires so many hours riding on an Ambulance.

Once you have completed both your EMT basic and EMT intermediate you are now ready to take your Paramedic class. This class will put you through a more intense series of training as well as clinical and ambulance or hands on hours. Once you have successfully completed the Paramedic book work you are now ready for your National Registry Exam if you pass this then you have fully completed the Paramedic license process.

Each county and state has their own scheduling system for Paramedics while some may require 24 hour shifts with 2 days off in between another county may require 10 or 12 hour shifts. Being a Paramedic is stressful and no two calls are the same so you have to always stay on your toes.

In order to keep your Paramedic Training up you must keep up a series of things, shots, pass random drug screenings and keep your CPR certification up to date. Most employers also make you take several refresher classes throughout the year to keep you up to date on the latest technology. Getting your Paramedic license takes approximately 2 years to complete.

Once you have achieved your Paramedic certification you are not just confined to being a Paramedic there are a lot of people that will go on to becoming a nurse or instructor. Once you have successfully completed your Paramedic training you have a world of opportunities before you.
