Entrepreneur Dynasty…My Dream of Owing a Business and Being a Mom at Home

By Jennifer Hess | December 30, 2009

Me, Myself and I

I am a woman who wears many hats; wife, mother, Certified Management Accountant, and the owner of an online kids clothing store. The motivation to start my own company came from when I returned to work after my maternity leave and failed to find the same personal satisfaction with my job that I had experienced before I had my children. I wanted to experience personal growth but still be actively involved in the lives of my children. Being a mom entrepreneur is one of the biggest and satisfying roles I have had in my life. I have the best of both worlds and I am much happier with this new balance in my life…and at the end of the day a happier better mom.

The Inspiration behind the Idea

The short answer to the question is…my kids. While I was home on maternity leave my day had to be very organized or I never got anything accomplished. The internet became a lifeline to reconnect to the outside world and provide the research on various products I needed. With two kids, often the only way to survive a shopping trip is to know exactly what you need and where to get it. Shopping with two kids can be summarized in one word…stressful.

Leisurely is not an adjective to describe one mom and two kids in a mall. Hectic, insane, chaotic come to mind but there is nothing relaxing about trying to keep both eyes and hands on your kids and try to locate whatever you need on the store shelves.

As a result I ended up buying a lot of what I needed directly online and avoiding the stopping stress altogether. I discovered I could find a lot of neat baby products but I had difficulty finding affordable kids clothing. I could find some expensive baby boutiques or international stores (some of them the larger well known brand names) but by the time I factored in the exchange rate or the customs duty tax the clothing became too expensive for my maternity leave budget.

The End Result…

Growing Growing Gone emerged as my mom-entrepreneur dream after I mixed all the motivation and ideas together. The store is brought to you by a mom who understands and targets parents who are looking for affordable childrens clothing for the baby, kid or teen on their shopping list.

Online shopping is the hassle free way for a parent to shop. When you have five minutes you can leisurely browse the clothing racks at your own pace and should you have to put back on the parenting hat, your shopping cart will be there for you when you return. There is no embarrassment if your kids throw a temper tantrum, there is no worry that the clothing racks will become the perfect hide and go seek spot; everything can be done from the comfort of your own home.

I spoke of my entrepreneur dynasty in the title. The dynasty I hope to leave for my children is the ability to dream and to have the courage to follow your dream. My dream has not been easy and some days there are not enough hours to get everything done, however I know it was the right decision for me.
