Loving Your Living Room A Little More

By Jenny Younger | July 4, 2009 | Popularity: 1% (?)

How can you update your living room every so often without spending a lot? It needs constant tender loving care more than the other rooms, especially if it’s one busy place. If you have guests often, spends your free time here, watches home movies and plays with the kids, the more you should maintain a good-looking and comfortable living room.

Survey the living room and check its contents. What things don’t belong? You might find shoes, candy wrappers, toys, bowls, etc. under the couch or other nooks that can be easily forgotten. If you have kids, anything is possible. What things need to be replaced? Perhaps the flower vases need to go and a new one be displayed. Are there any that need fixing? The coffee table might have a limp or the cabinet’s handle missing. Organize your living room and you’ll end up liking what it will look after. Trust me.

Cleaning the living room on a regular basis is important. Sometimes however, we don’t clean the “roads less traveled.” We forget the ceiling and the cobwebs that may be accumulating, furnishings like brass and glass that need polishing and retouching and the fan/air condition that needs to be thoroughly cleaned as it can exhaust air with dust, hence making all your cleaning go to waste in the end.

Some furniture need more than just the typical dusting and wiping. Others need polishing to look good as new again. If you have wooden, brass, metal or glass items, you should be using specific cleaning products for them to maintain their glow. Your living room will not only be sparkling but you won’t have to buy new furnishings anytime soon. With those brand new looking things, why should you?

Add colors! It can be through the throw pillows, curtains, drapes and cushions. If you have time on your hands, you can repaint the walls or a section of it for some redecorating. The color of the season is a safe choice, but for longevity, go for colors that you like. Seeing a shade that uplifts you, adds to the fun factor of spending time in this room.

You might also consider changing your area rug. Using a “new” rug is not just buying a brand new one. You can use a rug from another room as long as it suits the living room’s color and design. Alternatively, you can add another rug in the living room if you can spare some dollars. The living room will look great with another splash of color and pattern. Moreover, you’ll love the comfort that has been increased a notch with the addition of a new area rug.

Keep up to date with Home Design trends and enhance your home with a rug from the Dynamic Rugs Eclipse Collection.
