Why Are We So Stressed Out?

By Andrew John | February 1, 2010

Today’s society is teeming with stress. There is hardly anyone who has never experienced any long-term stressful situation. However, the real causes often remained undiagnosed and even if we managed to get rid of the stress from our lives, it was often done using “hit-or-miss” approach rather than anything else. While some causes of stress are relatively popular, many remain hidden even though they are still quite common. Here they are:

The most common trigger for stress is weariness. If you don’t get enough sleep or if your sleeping conditions are inadequate, you will likely become more easily irritated and will encounter problems even during the simplest tasks. Weariness is doubly dangerous as it is a perpetuum mobile – the more you are tired, the more problems you have and this will make you even more weary.

Then, there are problems related to one’s work. They may include long hours at work with no apparent effects, problems with one’s boss or traffic jams. Especially if you start experiencing road rage and yell at other drivers because you feel you are going to be late, this is a definite sign of getting stressed because of work.

The lack of job may cause even more problems than having problems at the office. People who are sacked will often feel angry or sad – and such feelings are known to induce stress. A few days without anything to do may be fine – a few weeks may easily get disastrous.

One of the more common causes of stress is money (or, to be exact, lack of it). When you start worrying about money instead of working on improving your financial situation, you are only a single step from depression. What is worse, this may also cause relationship problems that may end in separation or even divorce.

If you often have rows with one of your family members, keep in mind that it is also an important cause of stress in your life. If face serious problems at home, do your best to solve them immediately. Do not try to fight or prove anything – family is about cooperation, not about who’s on top – just find the cause of your problems and make sure they disappear.

Why Are We So Stressed Out?

By Chris T. Evans | September 2, 2009

Times are tough and things don’t seem to be looking up. Many people struggle day after day in hopes that things will turn around and get better.

But day by day the world is becoming a crazier and more uncertain place to live in, not to mention stressful. Nothing seems safe anymore. Millions of people are in record levels of debt. Many are losing their jobs, their homes, their health and sometimes even their sanity. Worry, depression and anxiety seem to have become a way of life for way too many people.

Time magazine featured a story back in 2002 that proclaimed that we are now in the Age of Anxiety. The constant stress of living in today’s society has taken its toll on many people causing constant fear and worry.

Disturbing images and stories are plastered all over the news just about everyday. People start to question if they are safe anymore. The Internet has created an information age, information has never before been so easily accessible.

One of the biggest stress factors is the economy. Many Americans are in debt up to their eyeballs. The cost of housing, gas, and food has become astronomical which cause people to work jobs that are unacceptable because they need a paycheck.

Having more women in the workplace adds to the stress. So many women feel the need to be everything to everyone and that includes a paycheck earner, house keeper, mom, wife, daughter, and sibling. The only problem with that is some women just dont make any time for themselves thus contributing to their stress levels being at an all-time high. Even children can feel the pressure of stress and anxiety. Teenagers who want to go to college find themselves pushing themselves during their studies to try and obtain scholarships so they can attend schools that have ever increasing tuition costs.

Even young people can’t sit back in relax. They are always on the go and reachable. All the cell phones, iPods, and mp3 players add up. Many parents can’t afford to help pay for these extra expenses so kids take part-time jobs adding financial stress to their lives.

Stress is a part of everyday life. The basis of stress comes from different circumstances that effect our lives like finances, relationships, and work. When stress overcomes us it becomes a problem.

You have everything inside you that you need to overcome your stress and the accompanying anxiety. The problem is, often we don’t realize that we are in control because we feel so out of control at time. But the tools are there, you just have to use them.
