The Discount Wedding Gowns Really Worth The Price?

By Jason Myers | November 1, 2009 | Popularity: unranked (?)

A bride asked me recently what the catch was with purchasing marked down wedding gowns on the internet. “It all sounds too good to be true” were her statement. Initially I was surprised that she thought there was a catch then I discovered that having been in the business for a long time I was taking my own familiarity for granted. One time I told her about the pricing process she gave me a rye smile and said “So I really can get a bargain online without compromising on quality”. Conversing with her rang a bell to me that buying a wedding dress is, for majority of the brides, a fresh experience and probably there are a lot more more brides who just required to be provided a bit of insider information to realise the amazing price savings they can make on the internet. Below is a normal overview of how the High Street puts a price their gowns.

The maker produces the dresses usually in a place where labour salaries are relatively low; China, India etc. They market the dresses to wholesalers in the USA Europe or Australia who then put their label on the dresses. Each Label wholesaler, you remember the names, then increae the price and market the dresses to their preferred high street outlets with suggested retail price rules. They do not want to make rivalry among their stores so price cutting is frond upon.

The High Street now marks up the cost to the suggested retail price to cover their expenses and make a profit. There is nothing erroneous with any of that; it’s the method business works. Therefore why internet sellers can discount their wedding gowns so much?

There are two areas where online distributors can offer you big savings. First they can cut out the middleman and purchase straight from the manufacturer; the down side to this is that you don’t have a brand to boast about. The next saving comes from the fact that online overheads are very low as with running and staffing a high street outlet.

There is another and not quite so evident saving which is created from transport and handling costs. Internet gowns may only be shipped one time from the manufacturer directly to your doorstep as compared to a High end dress is handled two or three times before you get it.
