I find a lot of confusion among new internet marketers when they ask the question, “What is Niche Marketing?”. If you try to find a simple answer online, you often end up more confused than you were when you began looking for answers. Simply put, niche marketing is when you narrow down a product or service to the point where you become a specialist.
To start making a niche in your online marketing portfolio, start to brainstorm. Take a look at general ways to help people, or solve a problem. For example, begin with something broad like “how to train cats”. Then take that idea even further like, “how to train cats to stop scratching furniture”. That is a popular niche. People are looking for ways to save their furniture, and there are ebooks out there that you can create or sell as an affiliate to solve that problem.
One expert online marketer once mentioned to me that when people are browsing, they will use broad terms like laptop, or even laptop reviews. But when potential buyers whip out their credit card, they are searching for specific words like the exact name and model of the product. They have done their research and are ready to buy. These buyers are the people that you want to target in niche marketing.
As internet marketers, we suggest products and services. It is important to research your niche, and get the best tools available to start making money online. So when you begin to ask yourself the question, “What is niche marketing?”, just think about some of the products you buy, get out your notepad write down some good keywords, and get to work.
