Power Sellers On eBay Are They Doing It All Wrong
By Graham Waite | June 29, 2007
Most people could be forgiven for thinking that a high seller profile or Power Seller would be a desirable thing on eBay. Even eBay aficionados would have us believe this and yet there are successful traders out there that claim otherwise.
Sydney Johnson looked at the accepted practices and then looked at effective ways of laughing at those who followed the herd and has become a bit of rebel with her unconventional but highly succesful underground methods.
eBay veteran Sydney gives you the opportunity to master her unique form of business with her Auction Genius Course which go against the tide of current thinking to give an almost unfair advantage.
When building your eBay business like most traders you are likely to strive for a high level of quality feedback. Which shows your current and future prospective customers your business is run effeciently.
When you get enough sales on eBay you are rewarded by becoming what they call a “Power Seller”, a position that comes with special privileges and a certain supposedly desirable degree of visibility. Most of the time it is a double-edged sword, says Sydney.
“I was a Power Seller for a while, until I started realizing that I don’t want to draw attention to myself. So what I do now is have lots and lots of IDs with low feedback – and I purposefully keep it low and keep my head down so that nobody notices me.”
Keeping a high profile can have its down sides. This is a problem which can influence even the most succesful operations out there. For example Sydney has experienced difficulties with a previously good supplier which in a short while left her feed back in tatters. After many hours of additional work this was resumed but could not have been anticipated.
Sydney might be a bit of a renegade but won’t break the rules which eBay have continued to add with worrying regularity.
Although not a rule breaker she chooses to push the envelope. But Sydney is not just thinking as eBay as place to promote her products she is much to savvy for that. She looks at eBay as an hugely popular lead generation tool and looks to build her own customer lists cheaply and effectively to bring additional stability and sales to het business.
This is where she and other traders like her are not model eBay traders. They are independent thinkers who don’t like to confine their business to just this one vehicle.
