How to Choose a Bedroom Wall Mural for Your Child
By Anonymous Ink | January 20, 2009
The most obvious way to personalize a childs bedroom is through painting the walls, but a wall mural is by far the most creative and original way to do this. If you would like to encourage creative energy in a child, there is nothing better than a wall mural.
However, decorating with a wall mural is much easier said than done; so the following tips will help you make the entire process much less painful.
1) Encourage your child to provide ideas While deciding on a wall mural design will need to be your job, as a responsible adult who wont change your mind in 5 minutes you can take notes from your childs interests. Hand your child a pad of paper and a crayon (colored pencils if they are older) and put them to work on sketching their ideas. If your child seems interested in drawing people (some say this is a sign they are psychologically social) then you should consider a wall mural of the family. Or, if your child likes to draw trees a scenic natural setting is appropriate.
2) Do not attempt to paint the wall mural yourself Unless you have experience with painting wall murals, chances are you will mess it up. I mean no offense by this, especially if you are an outstanding artist, but painting a wall mural is not as easy as it sounds. (Instead, you should opt to feed a starving artist with experience in wall murals.)
3) Try to avoid getting too personal Although a wall mural of the family sounds like a neat idea, it is also something you would need to paint over in the case you ever decide to sell your home. A neutral wall mural design is something that anyone would appreciate. Some examples are – A scenic waterfall An entertaining, realistic mural such as a door that doesnt really exist. A lively scene, such as a merry go round.
4) Opt for a more neutral wall mural While the concept of a wall mural is to personalize a childs bedroom, it is a safe idea to choose a mural design that is flexible. If you were ever to decide to move, a pretty mural of the Disney Princesses might not sit well with an older couple and youd hate to paint over such a pretty mural. Try to choose a neutral wall mural theme that anybody may appreciate. Here are some suggestions: A field filled with flowers, perhaps with children playing An elaborate waterfall Something entertaining, such as a life sized hole in the wall that leads to someplace interesting
5) Give it time Once your child has agreed on a wall mural design, wait about 3 months. As crazy as it may sound, a wall mural is a commitment similar to a tattoo. You really cant just paint over and start from scratch so you want to be sure that the wall mural design is something your child will not change his or her mind about.
6) Plan it out During the waiting period, you should reorganize furniture in your childs room numerous times. A wall mural is much more attractive if it is exposed instead of covered by furniture. You want to be positive that there is enough room in your childs bedroom to display a wall mural.
