Why Celebrity Drug Rehabilitations Fail
By: Chris Channing
What hope can average people have in overcoming an addiction via drug rehab, if even celebrities can't overcome theirs? After all, celebrities have access to first class rehabilitation centers that cost thousands of dollars per week- something the average person can't gain entry to. But as we soon find out, celebrities may even have it worse.
Drug usage is often illegal- meaning many citizens try to steer clear of using any addictive substance. But celebrities can enjoy a huge reduction in penalties that come from breaking the law, simply because of their status with the media and the leniency of the judicial system on celebrities. The penalties will be less intimidating, and thus, celebrities will be more inclined to exhibit drug usage as a result.
It is also true that celebrities can obtain drugs on a much easier level, without risk getting caught. It is much more probably that a celebrity will be caught with drugs than caught buying drugs, as they can afford extra measures in obtaining illegal drugs in incognito. If celebrities can get drugs so easily and without repercussions, a simple visit to the drug rehabilitation center isn't going to do much good.
The resort-like drug rehab facilities that celebrities frequent is also a big factor in discouraging celebrities to find help. After all, if the process is more like a five star vacation at a resort, celebrities will be less inclined to show improvement and more inclined to enjoy themselves without focusing on the matters at hand. The average citizen, however, does not have this luxury.
There is also less commitment on the celebrity's part, as they have more money and can afford multiple visits to a drug rehabilitation center. The average person can't simply check into a drug rehabilitation center every time they feel it is necessary, yet a celebrity can. This lack of commitment will result in a much lower rate of success unless the celebrity is truly inspired to give up the addiction.
While a drug rehabilitation visit isn't something the normal person would want to broadcast to their community, it's as if celebrities rely on the publicity achieved from such events to obtain more sales or leads in their industry. Journalists, newspapers, and media outlets all bring massive attention to the fact that a celebrity has entered a drug rehab program- an thus, it's just like a celebrity has obtain instant stardom all over again, and the public eye will be on them as a result.
Final Thoughts
Drug rehab may seem like it is worthless when celebrities go on a constant basis, but in reality, it is much more efficient in terms of the average user as compared to a celebrity. After all, average citizens have much more to gain from a drug rehab center than celebrities do. This is not to say that celebrities are going to revert to addictions and be drug addicts most of their life, it's just that their environment is working against them most of them time. Thus, one should not be discouraged when opting for a drug rehab treatment facility.
