What To Expect When Getting A Colonic

By: Harold Ulvaeus

More and more people are seeking this gentle, yet effective alternative treatment. Many are apprehensive or anxious about the procedure even though it is painless. If you wonder what to expect when you visit your colon hygiene practitioner, read on.

How is the colon cleansed?

During a colon hydrotherapy session, copious amounts of water are used to flush the colon completely. This is done without the aid of drugs or chemicals, so the procedure is relatively safe with few side effects. The water is gently pushed into the colon via a tube in the rectum, and the water is warmed to body temperature for the patient's comfort. Reputable hydrotherapy technicians will use disposable equipment to eliminate the possibility of cross contamination from patient to patient.

What will my experience be?

A colon cleansing treatment may last anywhere from a half an hour to an hour, but you should plan for at least an hour to an hour and a half. This will allow plenty of time for orientation and paperwork, especially if this is your first visit. About thirty gallons of warm water will be gently pushed into the colon and back out again during the procedure. Although it seems like a lot of water, it is necessary to completely cleanse the colon of impacted feces. Your colon hydrotherapy technician will most likely couple the procedure with abdominal massage to aid in the expulsion of waste. Waste is eliminated through a closed system, so it is discreet and does not cause foul odors. You may need to have up to three colon cleansing sessions at first to completely cleanse the colon. A skilled technician will help keep the patient comfortable, and patients often report very little discomfort during a procedure.

How often do I need to have my colon cleansed?

Depending on your life style, a person with poor diet and little to no exercise could benefit from more frequent colonics, in general a colonic 2-4 times per year is recommended.

How will I feel after the colonic?

After your treatment you may feel light, more energized, sleep better and experience less back ache. Many of your symptoms may be reduced or gone all together. Your bowel movements may be lighter and more frequent. you may be surprised at the benefits you will experience after having regular colonic treatments.
