What Is With These Pricey Handbags?
By: Patricia Rowles
What once used to be a shoe territory with Manolo Blahniks and Jimmy Choos reining the party circuit has now branched out into designer handbags as well. With more women focusing on comfortable shoes as they are working longer hours and traveling more, the focus has shifted towards pricey handbags that can turn heads.
Sure, shoes are still hot items but provided they are comfortable too. With handbags however, how wrong can you go? Your 'size' won't change when you get pregnant or when you gain or lose substantial amounts of weight plus they don't cause leg and back pain as much as uncomfortable stilettos can.
Handbags are a much safer alternative to wowing your friends and sincerely smiling at the same time instead of waiting to get out of the party so that you can walk barefoot to the car!
Easy to Share - Another reason why designer handbags have become so popular is that they are easy to hand down, share and borrow because of the no sizing issue again. Sisters, friends or absolute strangers can share designer purses by renting them online at Bag, Borrow or Steal.
Prices - Speaking of cost; an original Coach handbag for instance starts at around $200 and goes up from there depending on the size and style of the bag. Even young teenagers and school girls have gotten hooked onto the craze of name brand bags so much so that if they can't afford one, they pool in at birthdays and get one from fiends.
If 10 of their friends each pool in the average $15 the would have spent on a present, they can easily get a small Coach bag or wrist wallet with the signature logo. Of course this is a monkey see monkey do business; they see their moms ogling the latest designer handbags in store windows and only want to follow in their footsteps.
Auction Sites - If you do not want a knock off from the mall kiosk or swap market, you can score a deal by getting a gently used designer handbag online or at auction sites. People who have lots of handbags and want to dispose off them in order to buy more often are willing to sell purses and bags in great condition. Check the seller's reputation and bid carefully.
Another option is to get a gently used designer handbag from an auction site. Always looks at the sellers reputation and see if he or she he any negative feedback and if so on what account. Make sure the bag is listed in good condition and then set your mind to a maximum bid you are willing to place. Do not get caught in the bidding war so that you end up paying as much or close to what a new one would cost!
