What Do They Mean by Creating an Online Niche for Content?
By: Dan Iverson.
We all know that there are millions of searches done on the Internet every day. Did you know that there are tens of thousands of searches done on the Internet every day that are not satisfied by good content, (Information on that topic)? Did you know that all of the searches are tracked by a central database? (Wordtracker.com) In addition to the words that people do searches on, the search engines keep track of the number of sites that they have indexed with those key words, and how long people spend at those sites. How long they spend is believed to be a representation of the quality of the content on the site. In other words, if a person found what they are looking for, they probably won't keep searching.
What does all of this mean? It means that you are able to look up the different words that people have searched on, and see if there was enough or satisfactory content available to satisfy the needs of those looking for that particular information. I'll give an example: If I do a search on the internet for "vacation spots" I get 3 million results. If I do a search for "Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots," I get zero results. What does this tell me? It tells me that Google has 3 million sites with information on vacation spots. That means if I was going to try and build a site around these key words, I have to compete with millions of other sites. It also tells me that there are zero sites that have information on "Forest Lake Minnesota vacation spots." That means if I wanted to do a site based on those key words, I would have no competition.
Let's see if this helps you understand better. If we found out that the key work phrase "Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots" had about six to eight hundred searches every month, and knowing that the search engines have very little to offer for this key word phrase, we know that we will get about six to eight hundred visitors every month to our site. Remember, this is free traffic. You have now found a niche.
Whether you realize it or not, this is an opportunity. The reason this is an opportunity is because you'll have a site where a large amount of traffic comes on a regular basis. This is because they have an interest in a particular topic. Anytime you have a group of potential customers, they're going to be people that want to sell things to those people. Or maybe you can sell a guide for these people to plan their vacations to this location with. The main point is there is money to be made, and you can do all of this with less than $500 cash and lot of hard work. Not bad for a business that can produce thousands of dollars every month.
The most fascinating thing about all of this information is that there are thousands of niches waiting to be harvested on the Internet right now. Does this mean you should build a site using the keyword content of "Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots?" No, not at all.
A good place to start would be to look at your own interests. Then take some time and research many of the words that might be common yet specific to that topic. Once you find a group to these key words that are not being taken care of by the current web sites on the Internet, you're ready to go.
You might be wondering why it is so important that you choose a topic that you enjoy. The reason is that you are almost going to be married to this topic for quite a while. I mean with all the time you are going to have to put into writing content, articles, and let's not forget all of that takes time to research. With so many topics available, pick one that lights your fire...
The reason people write articles like this one is to give other people access to themselves. This is done by giving away some knowledge that they have gained through their own efforts and experience. By giving access to themselves, they get access to others. This is when people get to help each other, collaborate on projects and share tool and Ideas. I would love to help you any way I can.
