Using Craigslist to Find Bargains in Chicago
By: Online Audio Books
Nowadays, everything seems so expensive. No matter where you are, the purchasing power of the dollar continues to fall. In this country, stems from rising gas prices are one of the toughest economic strains. This situation not only forces you to pay more at the gas, but also drives up freight and shipping charge, which translates more expensive consumer's products in this country. It is even worse in big cities, where prices are already higher than in more suburban areas. In Chicago, for instance, gas prices have reached $3 a gallon marks. The good news is that we still can do something that helps to save our hard earn money to deal with high prices problem: save on gas by walking or using L train, conserve power at home, and search Craigslist for great bargains.
But what is Craigslist anyway? Craigslist is a centralized network of online urban communities throughout worldwide. Founded in 1995, originally as a resource for the San Francisco Bay Area. By 2006, there was a Craigslist site representing each of 450 cities worldwide. Since advertising on Craigslist is free (with only a few exceptions), and advertisers can place their postings in multiple sections, all organized into major categories.
Chicago Craigslist (http://chicago.craigslist.org) is a great site for bargain hunter's paradise. The "for sale" section is a place where you can find the right person who wants to sell his/her stuff. It is broken up into some sub categories that makes it easier for you browsing the site to find your treasure out. Want to find a less expensive laptop? No problem! Check out the PC's board. Looking for some rims for your new ride? Find them out at the auto parts board. You may find exactly what you're looking for in the "free" if you're lucky enough. Sometimes, people give out coupons they don't need may post them in this category. You can still get a discount on something you buy frequently even you are not that lucky. Thus it pays to pay a visit and check it out every so often.
I have put together important tips to ensure that you will be happy about this particular mode of frugality. 1. If you want to buy brand new goods, look for somewhere else, this is not a place for you because most things being sold on CL tend to be items people either don't want or no longer use. 2. Choosing the best delivery method that suits your need. Negotiate with your sellers and settle up an agreement about how they will send their items to you. Figure it out before it's too late. 3. Don't be so hectic to buy your items like there's no tomorrow. Compare its prices with some other resources and get the real bargain.
In short, Craigslist is the frugal shopper's dream. Buying used goods directly saves on overhead costs, which is great for you, the buyer. In expensive cities like Chicago, saving a few bucks on Craigslist can make all the difference in the world.
