Tips For Parties At Your Restaurant

By: Patricia Farnham

If you have a nice restaurant that customers are happy with, chances are you will get requests for them to host parties at your establishment. There are all types of events that they may want to have there including bridal showers, baby showers, family gatherings, birthday parties, and work parties.

Some restaurant owners are very willing to accommodate such requests and you will have to decide if that is something you are interested in doing. You may want to think about this when you are designing your restaurant as well. This can definitely help you generate more business for your restaurant if you have it planned out well. Some of the guests may not have been to your restaurant before but they will come back after the experience if it is a good one.

You definitely want to have a way to segregate the party from the rest of your guests at the restaurant. This way those at the party can have their fun in a more intimate setting. Your other guests won't feel so bothered by what is taking place around them either. It is a good idea to have some set rules in place for the use of the area to host a party at your restaurant as well. This way both you and the guests will know what can be expected to take place.

Are you going to charge them a fee for using the facility? Many restaurants don't do this because they are going to make money from the guests eating there. Are you going to allow them to decorate for the event? If so, make sure they understand that they are also required to remove the decorations afterwards. You will need them to let you know how many people will be attending the party as well so you can have the staff on hand to accommodate them.

It is very important that you have plenty of staff to work these types of parties. You are going to have regular guests in your restaurant at the same time. It isn't reasonable to think that your regular staff will be able to take care of both things at the same time. If the host of the party isn't happy with the service, you can be sure they won't book with you again. If your regular customers are left waiting because of the party they may not come back again either.

All of the bookings for the parties should be done by one person. This way there is no problems with conflicts, double bookings, or other issues. The host of the party will not be impressed to show up and find that someone else is using that space because it wasn't written down.

Make sure you obtain as much information from the individual as well. You will want to get their name, information on the type of party they plan to host, how many people will be coming with them, and the times they will want the room in your restaurant for the party. Don't schedule too many of them around the same time though as you need to accommodate for time to clean up and then for the next party to get set up.

You will need to decide if you will have the guests at the parties order off of the regular menu. You may be willing to offer a discount for a large group in order to get them to come in and each there. Discuss the issue of them bringing in other items as well. You may discover they want to bring along a cake and some ice cream for the event. If you are in agreement with this, offer a place to store them until they are ready to use them.
