The Truth about Selling Melaleuca to Your Friends and Family
By: Diane Voisley
You might have already heard about "relationship marketing". In fact, Melaleuca tells you that relationship marketing means that you can and should market to anyone and everyone you have a relationship with. Your Melaleuca upline might tell you that by talking to everyone you know about your business, you'll be passing on great savings to your friends and family who are already using many of the products that your Melaleuca business provides. It's a win-win situation.
There are so many problems with using this selling position with the first and foremost being that you have a financial stake in the offer and your friends and family knows it! From the viewpoint of your friends and family, you're selling.
The next problem with this idea of relationship marketing is that you are taught to assume that friends and family should buy from you simply because they know you. Knowing someone might seem like a good reason to give them your business, but there are still many more factors that go into a buying decision. The bottom line is that your friends and family will most likely view you as someone who's trying to make some money off of them.
Now here's a new twist on "relationship marketing" - taking it to strangers! Relationship marketing in this case means that you talk to anyone within "three feet" of you - anyone you want to form a relationship with. How effective do you think this really is? I don't know about you, but I'm not in the habit of buying my Melaleuca vitamins or any type of products from someone I met on the street. On top of that, with all the scams taking place, what kind of business conducts their activities on the street? Not only is this a waste of time, but it's tiring and ineffective.
Direct your marketing strategy to focus on targeted consumers who are in the market to purchase Melaleuca oil products. Use "relationship marketing" strategies to relate to people who are willing to commit to using your product; not as a hook for gaining new clients. Use incentives as part of your sales tactics. Use freebies and giveaways.
Write articles that push emotional hot buttons to get your targeted consumers. Don't rely on selling to your friends and family and lose sight of the fact that you'll still need qualified leads in order to build your business to success.
Have a method to qualify your Melaleuca leads and refine them once you get them your business. This might mean using an info request box or responding to an ad for a free e-book download. In any case, the people that respond are generally people who want to purchase your products or even look at the business opportunity.
Generating a targeted lead is actually quite easy and in fact, you should automate this process of lead generation for your business. Give your prospects information and more information and set yourself up as the Melaleuca information guru. Use flyers, ads and even your own website as a means to draw in new business. You should also invest in an auto-responder to help you provide a top quality service for your Melaleuca.com business no matter what time of the day it is.
No matter where you go, you will always find people who don't want to participate in your business. Your concern then, should be on finding the people that want your help. When you do that, you automatically increase your effectiveness and you will see the stellar results that seemed so elusive earlier.
