The Signs Of Alcoholism Explained

By: Chris Channing

Knowing when one is at risk for an alcohol addiction can essentially prevent a world of hurt and recovery expenses. But knowing what signs dictate alcoholism and which signs are just normal social drinking can make the process quite confusing. To help in the matter, there are a few signs of alcoholism that no one can mistake.

While songs depict that act of drinking alone perfectly fine or even humorous, doing so is actually one of the first signs that one is becoming addicting to alcohol. Drinking alone or even going to a bar without friends can be a sign that alcoholism is taking root in one's body. It isn't always a perfect sign, but doing so multiple times or frequently should be a clear indication of alcoholism.

Other signs in alcoholism will be showcased by anger. Alcohol addicts will commonly grow angry at subjects that would otherwise not cause them to be angry. A joke about how one drinks too much, for instance, can cause an actual alcoholic to lose their temper. This is one of the best indicators that there is a problem to be addressed, since there is emotional ties to the problem.

There is a popular myth that has been going around that states anyone who can't remember what they did the night before while drinking are clearly alcoholics. But in reality, this isn't a tell tale sign of alcoholism. If one doesn't know their limits too well, or one tries new types of alcoholic beverages, the effects can often lead to memory loss as a result of too much alcohol consumption. But if this happens frequently, there is something more afoot than just mere accident.

It's common for alcohol addicts to go through their routines and chores without caring for their appearance. This is common since hangovers and effects of drinking will cause them to feel groggy, depressed, and indifferent. If one's hygiene has been suffering for an extended period of time, it is likely they may be suffering from an addiction to alcohol.

Making excuses to drink or drinking on as many occasions as possible may also help one figure out if they are at risk for alcoholism. It's common for social drinking to include a few rounds of drinks after work, on the weekends, or even on holidays. But finding small occasions to drink to, or just going to a bar alone, can be a sure sign that alcoholism isn't too far away. This is usually a sign of addition in its earliest forms, if it is indeed present.

Final Thoughts

When it comes down to the prospect of an alcohol addiction, consumer should take every action possible in determining whether or not they could be subject to an addiction. If it is decided that there is even a slight chance of the possibility, then one should seek medical assistance immediately before the scenario becomes a disaster both financially and emotionally.
