A. A designated work area.

Your work area is probably the most important aspect of a home business. It is the place you go to perform your work with minimal distractions. Children's toys, household items, clutter and other non work related items need to be removed. Only work related items should be there allowing you to maximize your time and efforts allowing you to work undistracted maximizing your productivity

B. Manage your work by making manageable time chunks.

Most people have a to-do list and your business needs to be part of it. Attempting to put your children on a stead fast schedule can prove very difficult for many parents so your work should be put into small time frames that can be accomplished while the kids are napping, sleeping or involved in activities that require little attention from you.

C. Your best time might be when everyone else is sleeping.

Many busy parents have so much to do during the day it is nearly impossible to totally concentrate on their business.

The solution could be working at night after everyone else has gone to bed or early morning before any one else is awake. This allows the stay at home parent the time they need to give full concentration to their business making them more productive and more successful.

D. Your family must always be your priority.

Every parent has to have priorities and as much as they want their business to succeed their children must always come first. After all family must always come before work. If you find you can not focus on your family when you know you need to it is time to take a good look at what you are doing and readjust your time so your families needs are met.

It is far easier to adjust your work schedule than it is to solve family problems caused by your current schedule. If you must put off work for a short time to make sure your home is healthy then that is what you must do, work will always be there.

E. Make a resource list you can depend on when help is needed.

You may find that your business has become very successful and the time you can spend with your children is becoming limited. Instead of attempting to ignore your children, a tactic they won't let you get away with, look for those who can help.

You might need the services of a local day care, possibly one operated by another parent in your neighborhood oir a babysitter or pre-school. If your time is limited you can have a happy family like many other parents who go off to a job each day by seeking out the best care for your children allowing you to do your work while knowing your family is safe.

F. A major key to success, taking time off.

Many work at home parents become workaholics and time off is not in their vocabulary. But to have a healthy business and true feeling of satisfaction you must have a set work schedule. Like most jobs and business there is a time for work and time to quit. You must set your quitting time and not go back until you are scheduled to do so.

To really enjoy your business you should take the time to look at what it has done for you and what it can do for you. Often it is beneficial not only to you but to your children and spouse. Knowing it is beneficial to everyone you will have a sense of accomplishment very few actually enjoy.
