The Lemons of Life Can Make Lemonade
By: Elliott Roberts
It's just as easy to have negative thoughts as it to have positive ones. That simplistic statement was coined by a great professional boxer named Sugar Ray Robinson. While the statement may seem obvious and over simplified, the truth is that many people find positive thinking to be a difficult chore.
Negative thinking is like a disease. It eats away at the potential for pleasant thoughts and becomes more prominent the longer it goes unchecked. For those who succumb to this way of thinking, it becomes natural to find the worst in a situation. So much so, that they often do not even recognize their thoughts as negative. They expect the negative and some would even say that they unwittingly will the negative to happen. These negative thinkers take comfort in knowing what to expect and expecting the worst means they will rarely be disappointed. Ironically even the person who assumes the worst would like for the best to happen in their lives. Let's explore some possible ways to change habitual thought patterns so even the most profound negative thinkers can find a way to make lemonade out of lemons.
Self-help books will tell you that thinking negative brings about negative energy. There are several studies out now that show that positive thinking can "manifest" positive outcomes. If you are looking for ways to increase your happiness and improve your quality of life, then you must first determine if your thought pattern is part of the detriment to a better life. When life hands you lemons, do you make lemonade or do you complain about how unfair life is? If you are the person who finds the glass half empty instead of half full, then keep reading and hopefully you will find a few answers to help change your habit of negative thinking.
Fear, yes fear, is at the heart of negative thinking. Fear of failure when attempting to hope and dream for the best in life. Positive thinking requires a level of the unknown that many people are uncomfortable accepting. The unknown outcome of actions, the unknown end result of the hope they have sunk so much energy into. It takes courage to believe that the best is yet to come in your life and it is this courage that births positive thinking.
The other trick to positive thinking is to remain positive when you do not get the results you want. When you do not get the call back for your dream job, believe that there is another opportunity out there that may be even better than the first. Trust the positive thought that great opportunities will continue to present themselves as long as you continue to expect them. It is easier to see a great opportunity when you are looking for it than when your thoughts are caught up in the opportunity that you just missed.
Yet another aspect of positive thinking is being thankful for the things we already have achieved in life. These achievements took dedication and time spent working toward a positive goal. The homes we live in, the children we birth, the education we have achieved are all accomplishments and need to be given their due praise. Once we take a step back from lifes expectations and look at what we have already achieved, positive thinking seems all the more easy to do.
Dread is the major energy fuel for negative thinking. If a person takes the energy spent on dread, whether dreading a duty or dreading a job, and moves that energy to positive thoughts, life is a shining experience for the change. We all have the power to create the lives we want to live and if you believe in the false negatives of life, they will drain all hopes of positivity.
Life is all about our minds and the path our minds take to positivity. When we choose to live in the negative lights of life, the drain on our souls is evident in the lack of positive thoughts. Opening up our hearts to positive thinking will improve life and the chance of meeting all our positive dreams.
