There is going to be a big need for more and more workers to do this type of work in the future as our economy grows. There is expected to be a shortage of skilled electricians during the next few years due to a smaller amount of young workers entering training for this profession.
The amount of job opportunities for electricians in any given year will vary widely from area to area. Depending on the growth and change in the communities. There are some parts of the country that may experience a large supply of electricians while other parts of the country may have a shortage on electricians. It will all depend on the area of the country as to what the demand for electricians will be.
Questions to be asked when hiring an electrician
It is important to ask questions before hiring a electrician. Most electricians are honest and capable of doing very good work. But there will be a few that are not, so ask plenty of questions before hiring a electrician. Sometimes electricians don't handle all kinds of jobs and you should keep this in mind. Some are only involved in construction and remodeling work. Some electricians only are in to doing minor jobs and repairs. So it is very important that you explain to the electrician before hand what kind of work you will need done. And then see if they will be able to do the work you need.
The electrician may need to cut holes in your wall for the work he is doing. Any repairs will not be done by the electrician. So you will be responsible to fix the damage. So ask before the job has started how much damage doing the job will cause. On small jobs a electrician may want to be paid when the job is completed. On large jobs the electrician may ask for a down payment before he goes to start the job. And then he will either want the rest of the balance when the job is done or set up payments for you.
What electricians do
Electricians may start off by reading blueprints that shows just how electricity flows. These blueprints will show them where to put in wiring, electrical equipment and even outlets for the plugs. If electricians get a job where they work on new buildings they draw up new blueprints. Electricians install pipes and tubes inside of the walls. And put boxes up on the walls to hold all the switches and outlets for the walls. They pull wiring through the tubes to connect up to the boxes. This makes a path that the electricity will be able to follow. And this path is called a circuit.
Some electricians work mainly in factories. Fixing such items like motors and generators. It is also the electrician's job to inspect equipment and repair it before it breaks down. They will inform managers on when to replace old equipment. And will install all the new electrical equipment back again. Electricians may use tools like wire strippers, knives, hacksaws and several power tools. Electricians tend to do a lot of standing and climb ladders. Electricians work in all weather conditions. They often work in dirty conditions with hot temperatures. And then sometimes they will work in clean conditions with comfortable temperatures.
