The Different Classifications of Acne Explained
By: Chris Channing
Most teens and young adults have most likely gone through the stressing times that result from acne. But in order to help one's self with the dreaded prospect of acne, a certain amount of knowledge is required to accurately implement an acne-fighting regime each day. Doing so will help fight current breakouts, and prevent new breakouts from ever occurring.
Types Of Acne
One of the more common types of acne, the blackhead, is something just about everyone has experienced. The black dot that forms is actually not dirt, but rather a reaction to the skin and oxygen as the pore is partially blocked. Since the pore is only partially blocked, the pore will still excrement sebum and bacteria. The blackhead usually lasts longer than a whitehead would in the same situation.
Like the blackhead, the whitehead is also rather small in size. This type of acne differs from blackheads in the simple fact that they are completely blocked pores. The resulting bacteria and oil that is trapped under the skin creates a white look to the tip. This type of acne is generally less likely to be active on one's face long, as compared to blackheads.
The papule is another type of acne. The papule doesn't contain a head to it, and is usually just a red mark on the skin. Papules are generally fairly painful and large in size. It should be noted that one should never squeeze a papule, as it will only get further infected and scarring may result. Instead, one should either wait the papule out or consult a doctor for a cortisone treatment.
Pustules are similar to papules and whiteheads. A pustule will have the same white head that whiteheads have, yet also have the red inflammation and swelling that papules are characterized with. This type of acne can also produce scarring like papules can, so care should be taken so as to not aggravate the lsion.
Solutions To Fixing The Different Acne Types
Finding a solution to blackheads and whiteheads can be tough. Both types of acne are rather small in nature, and can usually be ignored. This is often the best idea since tampering with them can easily create pustules or papules from the spread of infection and inflammation.
When it comes to pustules and papules, there can be relief by simply getting a cortisone shot. This will help reduce swelling and inflammation that characterizes these types of acne. Try not to tamper with either type of acne, especially papules, as further infection will result.
When trying to cure one's self of a whitehead or pustule, be sure to do so in a very clean manner. Do not force the acne to excrement the white or yellow middle- and be sure to take care if this procedure must take place. Knowing these basic four types of acne and how to get rid of them will better arm you with knowledge in which to fight one's acne with- and have clearer skin as a result.
