By: Kathy Austin
When it comes to car that has lengthier and more exciting history, the Dodge Charger is one of it. This leading car of the muscle car era is popularized by NASCAR and TV advertisements as well as some shows and movies. Currently, it was revived as less expensive vehicle without compromising its quality that has been the reason why it has a number of adherents around the world.
The first Dodge Charger was released in the mid 1960s. It became the attention-grabber of motorists as well as the general public. The first Dodge Charger has a two-door coupe that includes a fastback style and a large V8 power engine. Like other cars in its generations, the Dodge Charger gradually lost its popularity because of the dramatic increment of fuel price and car insurance in 1970's.
The most popular version of the Dodge Charger is the second generation model. This model of the Dodge Charger is the basis of the 1969 Charger Daytona and of "General Lee," the car from the popular 80s TV show "The Dukes of Hazard."
The subsequent Dodge Chargers did not share the limelight of its two predecessors. However during the middle of 1980's, Dodge Charger debuted with its economy hatchback that later evolved into the well-known Shelby Charger, named after its designer, Carroll Shelby.
The novel version of the Dodge Charger is a sedan-type with four doors. The whole family can ride on it and will surely enjoy. With its spacious interior and default features, the new Dodge Charger has made a lot of difference from the original one. The modification is needed for this iconic car because of the auto industry shifts to a more lucrative utility vehicle market.
With its many changes though, its latest model still has the Mercedes Benz platform that has been used also in the Dodge Magnum and Chrysler 300. Comparing to the other middle-sized sedan, the Dodge Charger is larger. The most attention-grabbing detail of the new Dodge Charger is the front portion that with its aggressive appearance that is reminiscent of its original version. Though having a sedan-type body, the new Dodge Charger still has a sloping back like that of a coupe.
The SE model of the Dodge Charger features with its impressive 3.5 liter, 250 horsepower V6 engine. Its performance model R/T is loaded with 340 hp, 5.7 liter V8 hardware. The leading SRT-8 (Street and Racing Technology) includes an impressive 425 hp, 6.1 liter, V8 engine. Aside from the powerful engine, the SRT model is stuffed with bigger brakes, stiffer suspension and other design features.
One of the setbacks of the new Dodge Charger has to do with its bulk. Due to its size, the Dodge Charger is not as nimble as its much smaller cousins. Handling remains secure though. The roomy interior and comfortable leg room earns points among old and new Dodge Charger fans. Dodge Charger diehards would be thrilled to learn that there is an all new line of Dodge Charger keychains out in the market. The Doge Charger keychain complements the sporty and rugged styling of the automobile. Surely, this keychain is a must for all Dodge Charger fans.
