The Characteristics Of A Black German Shepherd

By: Jan Ryan

The Black German Shepherd makes a great family pet. He might be a little strong for small children, but with the proper training will become very respectful of the wee ones. He is a very loyal and watchful dog with a very pleasant temperament. He is extremely trainable and can be used for many purposes. The differences between the Black German Shepherd and the regular German Shepherd are very few.

The Black German Shepherd has kept the more traditional look of a German Shepherd through the years and he is larger then the regular German Shepherd. His coat can be short or long and flowing and his mane may be feathered or have skirting. His back is also straighter and he does not "cringe". Cringing is a typical characteristic of the regular German Shepherd. The only ailments you should be concerned about with the Black German Shepherd are hip and elbow dysplasia. With proper preventative care, this problem can be overcome.

Investing in a Black German Shepherd can be expensive. These dogs sell between eight hundred and one thousand dollars. The more luxurious and darker the coat is, the more expensive the dog. But if you ask any owner of a Black German Shepherd they will tell you that the investment was well worth it. Black German Shepherds are the most popular dogs in Australia. They are very plentiful around the world and should not be hard to locate. Their litters run up to ten pups each.

In order to keep your Black German Shepherd healthy you must groom and exercise him regularly. Because of its large size, the Black German Shepherd cannot be confined to a small yard. He needs a large area in which to run and play and regular walking and training.

His grooming schedule will depend on the length of his coat and how often he plays in the mud. But normally, bathing should be monthly and brushing should be weekly.

The Black German Shepherd is a very good disability dog. They are known to most as the seeing eye dogs. They work with customs officials and correctional officers. They are great obedience dogs and work instinctively well with the police. They make great companion dogs and so naturally they make awesome family pets. They are very loyal dogs and will be protective to their families. This characteristic makes them great watchdogs as well.

What can't these dogs do? They can be used in any environment because of their versatility. This is the most popular dog in Australia and one can see why. This dog is great with children and will make a great guard dog for the home. His loyalty will make him very protective of everyone in the home.

The Black German Shepherd is capable of all of these working environments and still maintains a steady and soft disposition. The Black German Shepherd is truly man's best friend.
