Originally known as Winter Festivals, after the fall of the Franco regime in 1976, the term Carnival was introduced, giving the whole event a lively international flavor, and the current enthusiastic celebration of the Carnival by residents and tourists alike have produced a colourful extravaganza surpassed only by the famous annual Carnival in Rio.
