T+ Medical partners with Lifescan for diabetes management

By: Julia Hanf

Increasing blood sugar level which is caused by diabetes can be very fatal resulting in results like vision loss , heart attack , failure of the kidneys etc. So on any body part which is dependent on Insulin will have more effect as compared to non-dependent parts.

Islet cells, found in our pancreas, secrete insulin. This insulin performs two major functions for our body. The foods that we eat get broken down into glucose, which our body will use for energy. Insulin helps to move this glucose, as well as fats and protein into cells that will produce energy. Insulin also lowers blood glucose levels, which rise as the glucose is released into the blood stream. Two different types of diabetes are Type 1diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. The difference between the two types is that patients with Type 1 diabetes cannot produce their own insulin and patients with Type 2 diabetes can produce insulin, however their bodies cannot effectively use it. It is hard to identify Type 2 diabetes in the early stages, so this form of the disease takes a toll on the body before it is ever diagnosed.

Now you might be thinking, how you can treat this, right? Treatment is not that difficult provided you are maintaining your proper diet, doing regular exercise, stress controlling & Depression control. To maintain the equilibrium of the glucose level, it's important to keep a well balanced diet. If you have to define the well balanced diet, it should be healthy diet which should be low in cholesterol, sugar, fats & must include the green leafy vegetables. For type 1 patients insulin is the most vital drug. Exercising would also help you in maintaining the blood sugar level. IF, by any chance the above precautionary measures are unable to solve the purpose then oral medication is the solution. Researches are going on and the scientists are really putting their hard work to develop a new method which is more effective to fight against this disease. Once this research is successful, there will be no need of taking Insulin shots and this technique is getting developed by transformation of the stem cells of human into mice.

Over 15 million citizens of USA suffering from diabetes are dependent on daily Insulin shots. Lowering down the blood pressure, level of cholesterol and the glucose level in the blood are the keys to have a control on this disease. People who smoke are more at risk as smoking activates heart disease and the rate is also higher for diabetic people. So, all people suffering from diabetes should quit smoking if they are looking to fight against this disease.

Johnson & Johnson known as the great giant in healthcare industry has a subsidiary known as Lifescan which supplies the monitoring systems for blood glucose levels which are of great use in hospitals, meters, test strips, lancing devices and also the software which is helpful in testing the sugar level in the blood. Data from Lifescan Is taken by t+ (an institute) and transmitted wirelessly to the central database. Because of this institute, people can view this information on their mobiles & computer. T+ was founded in 2002 and caters towards the treatment of chronic diseases (through technology services). Their motive is to help people in finding the diseases which are deadly and also to develop technologies which are cost effective for the providers in healthcare industry.

It is a major benefit for physicians who treat diabetes and their patients, that LifeScan and T+ Medical have joined together in the fight to treat diabetes. By combining two different technologies, these two companies provide lifesaving services to diabetics and their physicians. T+ Medical obtains its data from LifeScan's One Touch (R) Ultra (R) System. This meter is small and it gives accurate results fast. Patients can receive their results within five seconds after they input their information.
