Should I Be Worried About Getting A Tattoo?

By: James Beckett

Everybody wants to know if getting a tattoo is painful or not. It shouldn't be too painful when done right but bear in mind that you are being jabbed with a needle constantly! Two things will affect your experience more than any, the location on your body you have it done and the person who is doing it.

It is well known that some spots on your body will hurt more than other if you have a tattoo on them. From experience I can say anywhere with bone near the surface will be more painful. Try to get it somewhere like the top of your bum etc where there is 'padding' to protect you.

If you are worried about it hurting then two locations you can trust are the upper arm and the bottom of the leg, getting them in these locations should minimise any discomfort.

One thing to remember is that even if you have a perfect tattoo and it doesn't hurt a bit, if you don't look after it then it will probably be painful anyway! It is an open wound and you need to look after it like anything else or it can get infected and then you will in trouble.

If you do not moisturize the area intensively then you may get scabs forming on your new tat. You want to try and avoid this wherever possible because if you accidentally pull one of those scabs off it can wreck your tattoo. Your artist can advise you how best to look after your new tat.

On occasion an infection will occur due to no mistake of your own. It may be the tattoo parlor's fault. Maybe they used equipment that wasn't entirely clean, or if you noticed that the artist didn't have on gloves, you may have a case against that tattoo spot. Because you are splitting skin, you are going to have a chance of being passed an infection, which is why you must be sure that you are choosing a clean tattoo parlor that has disinfected equipment.

Most modern inks are very safe, but you need to make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients that could be in them, as they will be being injected into your body! Check online to see what the common ingredients are and ask at the specific parlor.

So in conclusion then having a tattoo is not really that painful, as long as you follow my advice and have it done in a reasonable area with some fat or muscle to protect you and take some basic precautions with who you use. If you do all that then you should have a very good experience.
