Shortcut to Good Credit History
By: Sharon W. Henry
Today credit cards are an integral part of our everyday activity. Even when you need to reserve a hotel stay or rent a car, you can't do it without your plastic. It's no problem if you have it, but if not?
There are two reasons for the lack of credit card: unwillingness and bad or no credit history. Many people with damaged or no payment history are afraid of being rejected applying for a card and wrong to think so.
Certainly, it's almost impossible to get a card with the most attractive features without good credit history. But you need to start with less beneficial cards and aim at establishing strong credit history. One of the simple ways to build credit is a secured credit card. Applying for a secured card, you need to make a deposit in a bank that will automatically become your credit limit. Say, you put $500 on your account. $500 will be your limit.
At first sight, secured credit cards are similar to unsecured cards for bad or no credit. They are accepted at the same places and can help you build credit history. But if you look closely and compare their interest rates, you will see that secured cards have higher rates than unsecured ones. The reason: you have no payment history therefore you are considered not a trustworthy customer.
You need to prove your creditworthiness to be eligible for better credit cards with more beneficial terms and features. At present, banks look at you as a risky customer and need to create special safety measures against the repayment risk. As soon as you become a reliable customer, you will get credit freedom to apply for the top credit cards with no annual fee, low rates and other alluring features.
Now you aim at building good credit and secured credit cards, in spite of high interest rates, are your shortcut to result.
Moreover, there is no better plastic than secured one to carry in the wallet if you have a bad habit of impulse shopping. Spending large sums on your plastic, you may ruin your savings account. You need only to realize this fact in order to cease making reckless purchases.
Certainly, all mentioned benefits of secured cards are great. But the best one is that secured credit cards give you a great chance to start your payment history from scratch. Among the holders of secured plastics there are also teens and college students who together with their parents take care about the financial future.
Talks about the rejection concerning secured credit cards are inappropriate. Secured credit cards offer a guaranteed approval. So, you won't be rejected even with very very bad credit history. One more advantage? Sure!
Before applying for a credit card, weigh all pros and cons of secured plastics and unsecured ones for bad or no credit. Whichever card you choose for your needs, just use it wisely! Only being a responsible holder, you will be able to build strong credit history and be eligible for beneficial credit deals.
