Protect your Home Using Hurricane Proof Windows

If you live close to the cost then you have almost certainly experienced some form of hurricane at least once during your life. Some hurricanes aren’t that strong, however others can cause a lot of damage. In order for you and your house to survive a hurricane you must be prepared. There are some tips you can use to prepare yourself for a storm.
Train your Family
You can’t ever have too much preparation when it comes to coping with hurricanes. Make sure you sit down with your family and come up with a good plan. Suggest that each person does a certain task to get your home ready. In case there is ever a storm you should come up with a safe place for you and your family to meet.
Emergency Kit
A hurricane will shut down the village and make It impossible to do many things. However after the hurricane has passed you might need an emergency kit. Create a box full of everything you might need, including fresh water, snacks, medication, matches, candles and first aid equipment. It’s sensible to assume that after a bad storm your power, water and hones might be damaged and unavailable.
Know Your Area
Make sure you familiarize yourself with the emergency routes of your town. Some storms are too strong for you to stay in the home, if this happens then you need to know how you can get out of the town. If your town ever tells you to evacuate then make sure you really do evacuate. Learn the evacuation routes so that you know where you should go.
Supplies
Many people live in areas that have frequent hurricanes and other bad weather conditions, if you are one of them then you need to stock up on things on a regular basis. Make sure that you always have enough food in order to survive for a considerable length of time. It’s always a very good idea to make sure you have a supply of any medications which you need to take on a regular basis. If you think that there is going to be a storm then make sure you fill up bathtubs, sinks and buckets with water.
Prepare Your Structure
You should also make sure that your home can stand up to a hurricane. Make sure that you consider installing hurricane proof windows or storm windows. This is a very important method of protecting your home. You could also consider boarding up your windows in order to protect your home.
Gas
If you live near water then it is very important that you always keep the gas tank in your car below the half way level. This is because you may have to leave the area very quickly, this is also because if the gas stations close you won’t be able to refuel your car.
Remember Your Pets
If you own pets then you shouldn’t just leave them behind. You do need to think about yourself before you think about your pets, however you can think about putting them in a car with you if you wish.
