Preventing A Yeast Infection - Easy To Follow Tips
By: Adrian Fletcher
There are many different ways to prevent yeast infection. The simplest way is to be more aware of your hygiene and living a healthy life. In these instances many potential infections can be avoided along with the associated pain that comes with it. For this reason it's to your advantage that you be aware of and practice yeast infection prevention techniques. Prevention of a potentially painful or irritating condition is far better than having to apply a remedy.
Yeast thrives in a moist and warm environment. This explains why the vaginal area is a prime location for yeast infections to occur. It would be wise to keep the genital area as dry as possible. Drying off well after swimming, bathing or exercising is an important thing to do. Be sure to dry the area as well as possible. Remove wet clothing right away. Do not provide any opportunity for yeast to take hold.
Many experts on this subject have recommended several methods of preventing yeast infections. From changing the diet to adopting different health product preferences, one may cut the risk of a rapid overgrowth of yeast. Yeast infections are very common but can be easily avoided by taking proper care of your body. If you wash your hands regularly after using the restroom this can be an important preventative step. You should always do this regardless of whether or not you have an infection.
One precaution that you can take for preventing yeast infection is to wear lightweight clothing made from natural materials that provides plenty of ventilation. Yeast is more likely to grow in the vaginal region when a person wears very tight pants or jeans and nylon or spandex clothing. Clothes made from cotton allow your skin to breath, and will result in fewer problems from yeast growth. Therefore, you should consider wearing cotton panties instead of those made from Lycra or nylon, because those materials trap moisture against your skin and allow yeast to grow in an uncontrolled manner. Similarly, you should not wear pantyhose unless you are wearing cotton panties beneath them.
An over abundance of yeast in the vagina can be caused by using common products such as scented tissue, pads, tampons, feminine spray products and sometimes even deodorants. This can lead to a full blown yeast infection. You should also try to avoid douches because they usually strip away the body's natural protective lining within the vagina. This can cause the vaginal area to be more vulnerable to yeast and other infections as well.
As sugary foods are also capable of triggering the proliferation of yeast it would be wise to check your sugar intake. Many studies have revealed that yeast tends to grow faster if the blood and digestive system has a higher sugar level. To satisfy your craving for sugar you may take a yogurt snack, but it's better to avoid sugar. The micro organisms that yogurt contains counters the growth of yeast. The easy way for prevention of yeast growth is to eat a cup of yogurt every day.
It makes more sense to prevent yeast infection occurring than to treat an infection that has become entrenched. If more women are careful not to permit conditions that allow yeast to grow, then they can prevent the mental worry and physical discomfort that can come from a serious yeast infection. By following some of the simple advice above you can keep yeast infections at bay.
