Plan Ahead To Make Getting Business Credit Easier

By: Robert Bain

You have likely heard all about how important it is to get corporate credit for your business. By the same token you have likely heard how difficult the process can be. There are some things you can do though to plan ahead and make the process of getting credit for your business easier.

One of the most effective ways you can go about this is to get a checking account set up with your business name. You want to be able to do it solely in the name of the business. Some banks will try to get you to do it with your name and the business name but don't do it. You have the right to have one in your business name so don't let them talk you out of it.

Don't wait until the day you open the doors for business. You want to get that checking account in place while you are still putting the finishing touches on things. Put a decent amount of money into that account and leave it there. Write checks for what you need for your business only from this account. It shows lenders that you have done well separating your personal and business expenses. You can also use the date you opened that account as the start date on your applications for corporate credit.

Find the right lenders that are a match to for what really need to get. It is a rat race out there and you want to get through the maze as fast as you can. Instead of running around and hitting dead ends get to the cheese right away. To do this you need to find out which lenders have a good record of offering what a business like yours needs.

Look for those lenders that have a reputation of working with new businesses. Since there is more of a risk involved you will expect the interest to be higher. However, you want to make sure you aren't working with a lender that is taking advantage of your needs. Many of them do and the fees and interest rates are absolutely ridiculous.

Always check out a lender though before you do anything with them. Most are legitimate but many of them aren't. Don't risk the integrity of your business because you didn't take the time to see what information the Better Business Bureau had on them. It doesn't cost anything to get the information but it can save you a ton of money to do so.

It is a fact that you will need to get corporate credit in place. You can take the long way around to getting it or you can take a straight line. The more you do to get prepared and eliminate the games the better it will go. You may have to approach a few lenders to get what you want but that is fine.

One you have it in place though you need to protect it. Don't mess up the credit that has been offered to you. If you do getting it again is going to be twice as hard if not impossible. If you take care of your commitment to the lender they will take care of you. They will make sure you get better rates later on and that your future requests for corporate credit are honored.
