Ugly Betty's very own Ana Ortiz has garnered much success after portraying the sexy and outgoing young mother, Hilda Suarez in the highly watched ABC series. However, she reveals that she initially auditioned for Hilda's fashion-challenged but smart and colorful younger sister, Betty.

"I was super plain. I just put on some glasses and kept my hair kind of flat and layered on the clothing," Ortiz revealed to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Patricia Sheridan, describing her appearance during her audition for the role of Betty. But despite her efforts to "ugly up," Ortiz eventually knew she wasn't the one for the role.

"My objective was mainly to go in there and give a really good audition because I was so excited about the project," Ortiz explained. "I just wanted them to remember me, so that I could be involved in the future."

America Ferrera eventually landed the role of Betty Suarez, and Ana Ortiz received the role of Hilda. It was a pretty good move done by the casting directors, as the two actresses garnered much success in playing their roles. America Ferrera earned the Emmy and SAG Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, while Ana Ortiz picked up an ALMA Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Television Series, Mini-Series or Television Movie.

Despite her success with the highly anticipated dramedy, Ortiz promises that she won't turn into anything like a diva.

"I have a really strong support system of family and friends who put me in check really quick whenever I start to act up," she admitted. "So I don't have any fear that it will be a problem."

As for her personal life, things have been also going well as she recently walked down the aisle to wed musician Noah Lebenzon in Rincon, Puerto Rico last summer.

"My husband is really understanding and my family couldn't be more supportive. My mother was always worried but definitely believed in me and supported me," Ortiz said.

Ana Ortiz appears on Ugly Betty, which airs every Thursday night at 8/7c on ABC.
