Obtaining Antique Car Insurance
By: Kay Brown
An antique car can be a beautiful thing to share, especially if you are someone that takes them to shows for all to see; these cars in particular need some particular type of insurance to protect them against accidental damage, theft and to propperly insure them.
There are many companies available that provide and even specialize in antique car insurance as the number of enthusiasts in this area increases. This is good news for the classic car owner who wants a specialist company to look after his insurance as they should have plenty of choice; competition amongst insurers should also mean a quote that meets with the owners financial requirements.
Even commercial auto insurers are getting in on the act now with policies to protect antique cars; often called collectors auto insurance, these plans meet the exact requirements of the vehicle to be protected.
Although the policies may seem the same as regular auto cover provides, they are not and the agent will require exact details of the car to be insured before a full quotation can be supplied. They will also help you decide which types of coverage are within your target budget and which deductible and limit levels you will need and can afford.
These large commercial insurers are often able to provide peace-of-mind because they should be more reliable than smaller companies; usually considered trustworthy, they will probably have a large satisfied customer base which means your antique car should be safe with them.
Often the policy holder may also have their everyday use cars insured with the same company. Often, the cost of an antique car insurance policy is higher with this type of company but many owners feel the extra cost is worth it as they feel much safer knowing the company is well known and they have a history with them.
Whilst cost is an issue you may find the specialist auto insurers that exist may be less expensive; also, these firms will generally not insure any other types of car.
With the number of classic cars still around you should not be surprised to learn that even the insurers have, in some areas, specialized even further to provide coverage for only one specific type of classic car. It is worth doing some research when choosing an independent antique car insurer, to make sure they have a good reputation as you will have a great deal of money at stake if you invest in their services.
The last situation you want is to require their help and find that all your premiums have been wasted because they cannot or will not pay out on your claim. It can be a lengthy process finding a reliable antique car insurance provider; sometimes it is necessary to persevere if you want to have you car protected by the correct insurance policy. Even lowly classic cars from times gone by are worth many thousands of dollars which means that protecting them is not an option.
