Necessary Equipment For Aspiring Boxing Trainees

By: Chris Channing

Out of all the sports combined, boxing is one of the most physically demanding because of the large emphasis put on training and endurance. Boxers will very often train rigorously throughout the morning and at nights for weeks on end in preparing for a match. Such workouts are necessary to have incorporated special boxing equipment, however, for best effect.

The safety of a boxer is the number one concern when sparring and training, and even in a real boxing match. Only through safety can a boxer continue to do what he or she loves best. This means that making use of headgear, groin guards, hand gear, and mouthpieces is completely necessary in ensuring an elongated career in boxing without injury present.

A good hand to eye coordination is good for boxers since it prevents injury through improved reflexive action. It also makes a boxer more prone to hit an opponent and still be able to guard one's own body from harm. Mastering the arts of coordination will come through avid practicing through a speed bag, which also consequently will teach boxers to keep their hands up- one of the best learned tactics in boxing.

Heavier bags are excellent for both beginning boxers and veteran boxers alike. A beginning boxer will be taught the key locations to strike a heavy bag, which is used to imitate a human body. Veterans can use the heavy bag for practicing punching maneuvers, techniques, and to practice heavy body shots that can disable an opponent if landed correctly. The heavy back also doubles over as a bag used for practicing combination moves, which make use of several different punching or kicking techniques.

For boxers who prefer superior training, there is the punching bag that resembles an actual human. This special punching bag is called a "slam man," and is made of materials that can resemble an actual human body. When compared to the heavy weight bag, the slam man is much better in landing combinations, planning body shots, and best for training beginners on how to follow through with a punch.

While it might not seem as important, proper clothing is a matter in boxing as well. Boxing clothing should always be flexible enough to allow for quick movements without distracting the boxer. Clothing should also be loose enough to allow for a comfortable fit. To please both necessities, boxers commonly wear boxing shorts in the ring, and accompany the outfit with a boxing hoodie jacket when outside the ring.

Closing Comments

Boxing equipment can cost quite a bit in the long run, but it is completely necessary for aspiring boxers to make it to the top of their industry. Avid practicing and willpower will get a boxer places in the boxing life, but that is usually only achieved through great boxing equipment. Many sports stores and online retailers will be able to assist boxers in obtaining the right equipment for specific needs.
