Natural remedies for anorexia

By: Groshan Fabiola

Besides specialized treatment, anorexia can also be treated at home using natural products.

Oranges are recommended during anorexia treatment because they stimulate the appetite and increase the digestion due to the fact that they increase the level of digestive fluids. Oranges can be taken two a day in order to get a maximum effect.

Another useful home remedy is using sour grapes in your alimentation. When preparing chapattis you can mix the flour with the juice of sour grapes and consume this aliment for two to three weeks. This will also improve your digestion, toning up the stomach and stimulating the appetite.

Lime and ginger are known as effective in restoring a lost appetite. Prepare a mixture out of equal quantities of lime juice and ginger juice and add one gram of rock salt over it. Then, for three days this liquid should be placed in sunlight and only after you can take one teaspoon after each meal from it. Ginger can also be taken separately once a day, by licking it with a little salt.

Apples are something you should not avoid. Due to the fact that they stimulate the digestive enzymes in the stomach, especially pepsin, they help your digestion and appetite. The doctor recommends eating an apple a day for being healthy.

Garlic is also known for its properties of increasing the appetite and improving the immune system. Use four cloves of raw garlic to prepare a soup which should be taken daily. This garlic should be boiled in a cup of water along with half a lemon.

Treatment of anorexia can be effective only after cleansing the digestive tract, adopting a rigorous diet and changing the life perspective and habits. At first the anorexic person should try to drink for three to five days orange juice and water. Every two hours beginning from 8 am and ending at 8 pm the patient should drink the juice of an orange mixed with a cup of warm water. It is recommended for the patient not to take anything else otherwise all the treatment would have been in vain. If the patient dislikes orange juice than the orange can be replaced with carrot but in this case the juice must contain equal quantities of water and carrot juice.

After the fast is done, the patient will pass to the next level meaning that he will be allowed to eat fruits in the next five days. Three meals a day containing apples, grapes, peaches, pears, pineapples and melons will be taken at a five hour interval.

The next step is eating easy digestible foods, butter milk, cooked vegetables, and juicy fruits. This level lasts for ten days at least.

During the first days of this diet the patient can receive warm-water enema every day in order to clean the toxic substances that cluster inside the bowel. Sun baths are also recommended daily because they are good for the body but for the spirit too. Long walks on a sunny day can only bring an improval of the metal status of the patient which is already depressed.

Family and friends must support the patient during this recovery process and must stick together and hope for the best.
