While everyone knows that the beach is naturally the main attraction when spending your vacation getaway in Miami Florida, it is important to remember that this exotically beautiful and massive urban jungle is also home to a number of other attractions. After a couple of days at the beach, it begins to lose its' allure, its' sense of adventure. The wise thing to do is alternate days. Spend your first vacation day at the beach, and the second discovering the thousands of other popular attractions. Keep your hands ON the artifacts

On your second day at Miami, particularly if you are an entire family, a good alternative to the sand and sun is the Miami Gold Coast Railroad Museum. This is not your every day, walk through, do not touch, see the stuff and go museum. No, this goes far beyond any museum you have ever been to. Here, the staff and board believe that the only memorable museum is an interactive one. The Gold Coast Museum actually urges you to touch and provides opportunities for you to be a part of the exhibit.

All Aboard!

Take the special exhibits for example. These really set the Gold Coast apart from your average museums, as this one has rides. You can take train rides on the Edwin Link Children's Railroad. This is a miniature train available for children. The size has been modified to a smaller scale than a real life sized train so that when the children ride it, they feel like grown-ups. Then there is the Coach Rides in the Standard Gauge Coach Cars. This ride is for the whole family, parents and children alike. You actually get on a real air conditioned train car, the Belle Glade," and take a twenty minute ride through the local countryside. Then there is the ultimate ride of all, the Cab Rides. Here the entire family gets to hop aboard the engine and ride in the cab of a real train alongside the head engineer. History in the Making

The rides are only part of the steam filled adventure you will have here. There are also tons of exhibits of real life sized steam engine locomotives and other trains. There are Steam Locomotives and Diesel-Electric Locomotives. These are real trains that once sped through the railways throughout the United States in the early 1800's. At the time, this was the only really fast way to travel long distances. The engines that you will see at the Gold Coasts are actual segments of history, free to touch and tour.
