Knowing the Causes of Smoking
By: Roberto Beiro
Many people think that the causes of smoking are the same for everyone, but in fact this isn't true. The causes can vary from smoker to smoker. Another myth is that smokers continue with their habit because of the physical addiction, but this is not the case either. Some are not seriously physically addicted.
Nicotine can create an addiction, but it doesn't have the same affect on everyone. Some smokers continue smoking not because of being physically addicted, but more because of the psychological one. They have to smoke to relax, and have a hard time giving up this habit.
You need to get an understanding of what made you start smoking if you want to stop the habit. As for me, i was a silly school kid you gave in to peer pressure. I thought it was cool to have a cigarette with my friend out back of my school.
I began to smoke regualrly with my friends and have a good time. I must have associated smoking with those good times.
I didn't have a physical craving for cigarettes, I was addicted to the habit. I found out that this can be one of the worst causes of smoking. I missed not having a quick smoke, which made me anxious.
I would light up any chance I could, in the morning before breakfast, after breakfast, before lunch, after lunch....your get the idea.
The cause of smoking in my case was the habit, not the physical addiction. I found out that this was was on the most difficult causes to break through.
Now are are many tools available to smokers to help them stop the habit. For example niocotine gum is a great way to ween yourself of the nicotine addiction.
Another great tool is the Stop smoking support groups, thought ther aren't my cup of tea. I think the bottom line is to gather as much information about the causes of smoking to give you the best chance of kicking the habit. If you really want to quit their are many recources to help you.
