Keylogger usage
By: Dan Smith
Keyloggers have gotten a lot of bad press lately, with their association with hackers and identity theft. But the fact is that, like any tool, they can be used for good or bad purposes. Yes, some unscrupulous person could possibly put a keylogger on your computer, and that's why you have a spyware detector.
Similarly, a car that you use to take you safely somewhere, could just as easily be used by a criminal as a getaway car. This is hardly a good thing, but it doesn't stop you using a car, does it? As a matter of fact, keyloggers, like cars, can be used for a number of legitimate purposes.
As an example, you may have noticed that the internet is an increasingly dangerous place for children. Well, with a keylogger, you can simply and easily keep an eye on what they're up to. There are a lot of bad people online, and being able to know, almost instantly, if your children are in danger is a huge help to any worried parent. A keylogger will do this, so that you can relax and stop thinking about the danger your kids may be facing online.
If you're not worried about your kids, a keylogger can still be useful in other family situations. To give you an example, you might be afraid your husband or wife is cheating on you with someone. A keylogger will give you an easy way to be sure. Just get it set up, and you'll immediately be able to determine if your suspicions are correct. And it will cost a lot less then a private eye would!
Even if you are not worried about a cheating husband/cheating wife, spy software such as a keylogger provides an excellent tool to help at work as well. You can watch what your employees are doing as they are doing it, and instantly catch them slacking! More importantly, with a way to monitor activity, you can detect and plug trade secret leaks before they become a problem.
Software like Secret Agent Spy (from http://secretagentsoftware.com/) make this an easy task. They are easy to use, no trouble to install, and allow you to start monitoring instantly. Just download the program, and install it on the computer you want to monitor.
The recent advancement of spy software, such as the aforementioned Secret Agent, has allowed a number of new developments to be made. For example, You can now not only record keystrokes, but every action the user makes. This is recorded as a video, which you can play back later, just like a DVD. And like a DVD, you can fast forward or rewind it, giving you an unprecedented level of control.
The standard stealth features that now come with programs such as this are, usually, enough to stop anyone from knowing it's running in the background. Combine this with the ability to email the records, without you ever having to access the computer yourself, and it becomes extremely unlikely that anyone will discover it. Even if someone were, somehow, to find the program, there is no way they could know who installed it, because any good program uses password protection.
If you are even slightly worried about what others are doing, you need to get a keylogger. The simplest keyloggers will give you valuable information, but if you get a really good one it will allow you to do so much more. The best thing to do is to go out, do some research, and then buy the best that you can find. Check out forums, and ask friends for advice, but in the end get a program that does everything you want it to. Don't settle for second best, especially where security is concerned.
