With an appropriate treatment of the underlying anxiety or depression instead on the insomnia, you will begin to feel better more quickly.
After a complete review of your medical history and a thorough medical exam and your doctor has definitively diagnosed insomnia and it's the root cause for your inability to get to and stay asleep, your physician may elect to prescribe a hypnotic medication.
This medication is designed to help you to fall asleep and stay asleep for longer periods of time. Of course, this leads to deeper and more restorative quality sleep. And hypnotics are also designed so that they do not interfere with your daytime life.
Like most medication designed to treat insomnia, the hypnotics are intended to be taken only for short periods of time and work best when you slowly taper off the dosage instead of cutting them off all at once.
Of course you must work very closely with your physician before you stop any insomnia medication.
Insomnia is a challenging condition to manage and so you can relax a bit knowing that there are a variety of sleep aids and medications designed to remedy your insomnia and keep you from spending one more night counting sheep and praying for sleep that refuses to come.
