Keep Inflation at Bay

By: Jonathan Swift

Keep Inflation At Bay
Inflation is something that many people fear – and for good reason. It makes our finances fall behind the curve, making for a bit of belt tightening. If we don’t watch it, our current income will not be enough to match the inflation rate. Here are some tips to help you keep inflation at bay.

Watch your spending on drinks
No matter what kind of drink, the cost adds up after some time. Think about it, how many sodas do you have in a day? How many bottles of water? Fruit juices? How about when you go out for a night of drinking? How many bottles of beer do you consume? How about mixed drinks? Add the little costs everyday for a month and you will realise just how much you can spend on drinks! You won’t be too happy about that, trust me. So, the next time you feel thirsty, do not give in to your habit of running to the nearest convenience store for a soda, a water, or even a fruit juice. Instead, go to the water station of your workplace and get yourself a glass of cold water. When you go out, try to limit your drinking.
Watch your mileage
Do you drive to go to the store a block or two away? Do you drive to work everyday? How often do you drive out on weekends? Maybe you may want to change your patterns a little bit to save up on petrol. You know how much petrol prices keep rising – and there doesn’t seem to be much hope of them going down anytime soon. How can you save up on gas? Walk to destinations that can be reached by foot. Organize your trips to the store so you don’t have to keep driving back and forth. Organize a car pool with friends and family members. By doing these things, you not only save of petrol but also preserve your car. By lessening the use of your car, you lessen the wear and tear and lengthen its life.
Get off your bum and do your own work!
Do you have someone who does the housework? How about the lawn – do you pay someone to mow it? These are some of the things that you can do on your own instead of paying other people to do them. There are actually a lot of other things that you can save money on. How about changing your car’s oil? Or maybe painting your own walls? I am sure that you can think of a whole lot of other things that you can do on your own instead of spending your money to pay someone else.
Check unused subscriptions
How often do you watch TV? Do you really need satellite TV? If you only watch TV once in a while, then maybe you can save money on satellite TV and cut it off. How about magazine subscriptions, domain names, and other “premium” services? If you don’t really use them then there is no point in continuing to pay for them.
