Is The Ringtones Market Going To Die Out Soon?
By: Pete Moret
Since the beginning of the first mobile cell phone, there were ringtones. And they became instantly very popular. But now some companies are trying to squeeze every penny out of our childrens pockets. Those companies are now making the ringtones market a dark market. Will the ringtones survive?
I'm not going to say the name of the companies but you've probably seen some of the ringtone commercials on the tv. Those commercials are most of the time on the music channels like mtv. They say in the commercial that you get a free ringtone. But if you read the little text at the bottom of the screen, you'll find that you have to pay $4,50 a week for a number of ringtones and you get the first ringtone free.
But many children who buy ringtones and realtones don't read that text. And you can't blame them, it's really hard to read the text. I tried it myself and I had to tape the commercial and pause it for a while before I could read the whole text.
But when you have bought yourself a subscription there is no way of getting unsubscribed but to block the phone number at your telecom provider. I've heard stories of people who had to pay $180 bucks a month for just some realtones. Many people find it unethical and so do I but their practices are not against the law because they do tell you are automatically subscribed to receive more ringtones where you have to pay for.
Also when you look a lot at those music channels you get some sort of brainwashed with those commercials. In the Netherlands one of those companies wanted to buy the whole commercial block for themselves. But they couldn't because that was against the rules. So what did they do? They just put up a daughter company which has the same unethical way of selling ringtones and with that company they bought the other half of the commercial block. So in stead of commercials you saw 5 minutes of ringtones to buy, and that every 20 minutes!
Now a lot of people think bad of ringtone selling companies and websites and I can't blame them. But there are really a lot of ethical ringtone websites out there. But a lot of people and children don't know that because they've seen all the commercials everywhere of companies that rip you off. And believe me as a ringtone seller, it is not profitable for me to buy a tv advertisement and sell ringtones the ethical way at the same time. It just doesn't make up the costs. So you end up with only unethical commercials on the tv and nobody would notice the ethical ones that get destroyed by those companies.

Coolerealtones.com sells realtones and ringtones on it's website. The realtones cost you a one-time €2,60 and the ringtones cost you a one-time €1,30. And you will never ever hear from them again after you've bought a product.
