Is Shrimp Bad For Cholesterol ?

By: Adrian Fletcher

If you have high cholesterol and take a careful look at the amount of cholesterol in the foods you eat, then you may pause for thought when it comes to cholesterol in shrimp. First of all, lowering your cholesterol level does not mean that you have to give up everything good in the way of food. Even though you may feel as if you are giving up more than you are receiving, a little research will help you find that this is not really true. There are many delicious foods that can help you keep your cholesterol at healthy levels.
While it is true that there is cholesterol in shrimp that will increase your levels, what you may not know is that it's not all bad. While eating shrimp does increase your LDL cholesterol somewhat, it also increases your good HDL cholesterol a whole lot more. So don't leave shrimp and shellfish out of your diet completely, just use your head and enjoy a reasonable amount.
People worry that once they have to go on a diet, they are limited to eating food that they aren't fond of. This shouldn't be the case. With good background research it is easy to put together a diet that contains food you like to eat in various and delicious combinations. In many cases just learning how to prepare foods like shrimp with a few simple vegetables and some spices rather than cooking it with tons of butter can tip the amount of cholesterol in shrimp toward the more acceptable ranges within your diet plan.
A crucial consideration when selecting a diet to lower your cholesterol is to include foods and ingredients that you like and enjoy eating. It is possible to create a healthy diet with all sorts of high fiber, fat free ingredients but it won't do you much good if you can't stomach it. This is why many prescribed diets fail. People always begin with the desire to change their diet to include only the best foods, but they are unable to make these foods appealing enough to continue eating them and the diet fades into the background after a few weeks or months. This is why a good cookbook becomes an essential ingredient for success in lowering cholesterol through diet.
Proper guidance from a nutritionist who can give you the various types of food that can be eaten is invaluable. Picking foods you like will enable you to keep a good health. It is always a better idea to base your diet on ensuring you are receiving the most nutritional value for the food you consume.
When dieting, people tend to make poor decisions about what they eat which usually results in straying from their diet. However, constructing a well organized meal plan can avoid any resistance you might have to sticking with the diet until you reach healthier cholesterol levels.
Bear in mind while dieting to lower cholesterol levels, to consider your weight and feeling satisfied as well as the amount of cholesterol in every piece of food at mealtimes. Being informed about the amount of cholesterol in shrimp for example, may actually be effective in helping you adhere to your diet while providing you with both foods you enjoy and the proper nutritional values.
