Hydrogen Generators Safety
By: Groshan Fabiola
Using and handling hydrogen presents many dangers, when air and
hydrogen is mixed risks of an explosion highly increase because the mixture is
highly explosive.
When working with hydrogen generators you mast be very attentive. the
room where the hydrogen generator is placed should be very well
ventilated, an outdoor zone if possible, and everything must be done to
eliminate the risks of explosion and fire around the hydrogen generator.
When using and handling the hydrogen generator incorrectly, it may
produce excessive heat and dangerous chemical reactions. For example, if
the hydrogen generator is removed from its water tank while it is
operating it will overheat and high risks of fire appear. If you wish to
remove a hydrogen generator from the water you must wait first for the
generation of the hydrogen to stop.
All the equipment on the nitrogen generator should be grounded, to
prevent static electrical charges from generating. This can be done
connecting the equipment to some copper wires which are planted 3 or 4 feet
deep inside the ground. The cooper wires tied to the generator should be
placed in such way that the resistance between them is less than 1000
ohms, and if you can't do that, increase the number of wires so that the
resistance between them is never more than 1000 ohms.
Also, the grounding stakes of the hydrogen generator should be
connected to the water can or to balloon launcher.
All the metal parts should be interconnected through grounding wires
and they should be cleaned in such way that the bear metal is exposed.
Wires and alligator clips can make the job easier.
If the persons who are handling the hydrogen generator are wearing wool
or fur, they must be grounded themselves, because these types of
clothing may conduct static electricity. This can be done if the people are
wearing a wristband connected to the ground through a copper wire.
If taking all these precautions the risks of hazards seriously
decrease.
