How to Get Published

By: Denver Moralez

Recent studies uncovered that more than eighty percent of Americans want to write a book. Meanwhile the National Endowment for Arts estimates that no more than fifty-seven percent of American have read even one book in the last twelve months!

Regardless of that reading-writing paradox, this article will show you how you can get published even though you never have the chance before.

What makes you want to put something on paper and publish it?

Most people would agree that the common answer for that question is simply fame and fortune. If you have a business, then by publishing a book or an ebook you can gain a credibility as an expert in your field.

Whatever the reason is, the chance that you will see your manuscripts published by a reputable institution is very rare.

Beside of your manuscripts - assuming that you've completed each - there are other two million manuscripts currently completed and ready to be published. On the other hand, there are only 64,000 publishers on record, and only a fraction of those are actively seeking new manuscripts.

Most of those two million books stand no chance of being accepted by a traditional publisher. Those authors that do make the cut are not necessarily the best writers, but rather are those who can sell themselves and their stories most convincingly.

So, what makes you and your manuscripts stay out of the crowd?

Here is the thing you can do. Make sure your manuscripts are the best they can be. Proof reading, editing or even rewriting by an outside firm or well-read and literate friend would give much help.

Some authors, after rejections from the trade, will find themselves victims of vanity publishers, who take advantage of the hopes and aspirations of writers to extract an exorbitant fee to 'publish' their book.

Few select then decide to become publishers themselves. Even it is only to self-publish their own book. Few even have the route of internet publishing and reap a fortune from it.

Sure that those kind of self publishers will find great obstacles, and a great deal of work in this route, but the challenge and reward of having one's success or failure entirely in one's own hands is a powerful feeling.

No matter what way they choose, be it electronic publishing or use short run printing service like Lightning Print, or even to go full board with a print run of 1,000 or more, their success depends on how well they sell themselves and their story to others.

So, if you would like to succeed with your manuscripts, do not forget to improve your knowledge and education about the industry, its scams, and its potential pitfalls. More importantly, learn to market yourself well. It's more likely that you need this kind of skill often than any other publishing skills. It is the most important factor that can determine whether you'll succeed or fail on the way to publishing fortune.
