How To Set Up Your Site To Take Payments

By: Lucas Heijn

The internet is a marketers dream. Here you have an audience that runs into the hundreds or even thousands of millions. All you need to do is get your slice of the action. I'll discuss that in another article.

So the big question is; how difficult and expensive is it to set up your web site with a payment processor?

It's fairly simple really, and very affordable. The first time you do it you may sweat a little as everything you do for the first time is not easy, but you will soon learn. It is also most affordable for most people. So what do you need to do?

So how do you go about it?

First you need to get yourself a good web host. Not a free one. Why not free? A free host makes you look unprofessional. They have their own advertising on your site. You need to be able to have your own advertising or no advertising so that you focus your customers on your product.

You will also need a payment processor, one that doesn't cost the earth. Free preferably

You will also need the software to make your pages.

Finding a good web hosting provider is your first job. Here are some things to look for:

As your business grows and you promote more products you will need more domain names. Your web hosting provider must allow you to run a number of domains on your account. You also need to be able to have a good number of subdomains.

Will you be able to run CGI scripts as well as PHP? How many databases will you be allowed to use. Most PHP scripts use MySql databases. This is what makes your sites dynamic. These are all questions you need to get answers to in order to decide on a web hosting provider.

Next your payment processors. There are very affordable ways to set up a payment processor. I'm just going to mention three.

The free one is PayPal. You pay them a small percentage of your sale when you make one. Their payment system works with email. You will need to set up a dedicated email account. You will be able to do this with your hosting account. Your hosing account should allow you to set up quite a few email addresses.

2checkout.com is another secure payment processor you could use. Many internet marketers use this payment processor. Most will use all three. This one has a setup fee of $50.00 and then charges a small fee for each sale you make.

The last on this list is ClickBank. ClickBank is free to join. It has a huge list of affiliate products that you could choose to promote. If you wish to become a vendor, selling your products using ClickBank you will need to pay a setup fee. This is about $50.00. ClickBank also charges a small percentage for each sale that is made through them.

Both PayPal and 2Checkout.com generate code for you to place in your site. You will need to place this code onto the body of your page where you want the button to appear. ClickBank generates a URL which you can link to a sales button.

As you can see, setting up your own e commerce web site is not real difficult and is very affordable.
