Sign up, and you'll be up and running immediately, and it's totally free. The beauty of blogging is that you can blog about whatever you want! But, if you want to make money by blogging, I would recommend that you follow these suggestions to maximize your earning potential.
To begin with, pick a niche and stick with it. The goal as a blogger is to become an authority, someone that readers can trust. If you just blog about random things, no one will think you are an expert at anything. Become a resource for a specific topic, and as an authority people will trust and respect you, and you will be able to monetize based on that trust.
Secondly, provide a lot of value. There has to be a reason for people to return to your blog, or subscribe to your RSS feed. Don't just spam them with a ton of offers and ads, this might earn you a few pennies, but you're in it for the big bucks, and you can only do so with a captivated audience.
Also, making money with blogs takes time, so be patient. You need time to grow, become popular, and build up a solid bank of great content. It may seem like a lot of work at first, but trust me when I say it will be well worth your time as your earnings continue to grow with your blog.
Last but not least, choose the most effective monetization method for you specific niche. There are tons of ways to make money from a blog, such as with paid posts, advertising, or widgets; but only you can determine what works the best by testing them out. The one method that is super effective in almost every niche is affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing is the best way to make money from blogging. As you become more popular, and more of an authority, you are in a position to make recommendations to your readers who trust you, and are willing to follow your lead.
