How Burrs are Being Deburred

By: Hispanic

Deburring is, to put it simply, a finishing method used in industrial settings and manufacturing environments. Metal is frequently machined using many processes in order to create pieces of specific shape and size. For example, metal may be welded, molded, cast, trimmed, slit or sheared. In other cases, sanding may be necessary, whether this means a small amount of sanding by hand or rigorous sanding with a machine for more troublesome deformities.

There are many ways to achieve deburring. One way is to apply abrasive substances or components. They can be rubbed against the metal surface to smooth out tiny notches, thin shavings and other protruding pieces. Some machined metals require sanding in addition to deburring. Sanding can be done by hand or machine (for higher level of deformities). Filing or grinding is another way of deburring. Such process is effective in removing fragments and nicks. Take note that deburring should be done for all section of the metal sheet. Burrs often appear on edges and also on seams.

It is important in deburring metal and woods because this improves the quality of the material making safer to handle. All small protrusions can cause serious accidents if left unattended, this can also cause companies delays and loss of money. This delays can be avoided when manufacturing process such as deburring takes place on all metal and wood materials.

Deburring enhances the quality and functionality of metals and woods. Sanding or filing can be done by hand or by power tools, deburring removes pieces of wood that are ripped. The most common process is by sanding, either done by hand or by a tool.
