Get One Of The UK's Construction Engineering Jobs

By: Richard Taylor Edwards

There is of course a huge construction boom going on in the UK at the moment. There's the rush to build the Olympics of course but that isn't all that's going on, leading to very good opportunities for those who wish to either move within the sector or move into it (from a related profession of perhaps from outside the country).Just a few things that are adding to the opportunities available.

There is of course a huge construction boom going on in the UK at the moment. There's the rush to build the Olympics of course but that isn't all that's going on, leading to very good opportunities for those who wish to either move within the sector or move into it (from a related profession of perhaps from outside the country).

Just a few things that are adding to the opportunities available.

The current government has decided to renovate almost the entire social housing stock across the country. Claiming that decades of neglect have meant that much of it is uninhabitable (or at least not to a decent standard) local councils have been throwing billions at the sector. This is not an easy (or well paid) sector to enter but it has obviously increased shortages elsewhere in the industry.

The demographics in the UK are changing, It isn't just that we are all living longer, thus increasing the population (nor is it just the net immigration either) but we are also choosing to live in ever smaller households. There is of course the possibility for large properties to be broken into smaller units but the English especially seem to want to live in a house with a garden: so smaller households means many more houses.

The third and perhaps most important factor is that we are still riding a fifteen year old boom in the economy. Ever since 1992 we've had an unprecedented period of growth: this of course means that the office and commercial building sectors have been booming along with those factors specific to the housing market.

It has to be admitted that low interest rates (and thus low commercial and residential mortgage rates) haven't hurt either.

So we have a booming sector in a booming economy. The next question is how does anyone go about taking advantage of the job opportunities within it, especially someone without detailed industry (or even country) knowledge? The best way is probably to talk to the specialist recruitment company in the sector, Talisman. As they are the experts they are tasked by companies with filling their job opportunities. As Talisman only ever takes exclusive opportunities it also means that a lot of wasted time can be cut out. Your specialist within the company will not only know what opportunities there are but will be able to pre-qualify you. That means a great deal less time spent going as part of a large group to interviews and so on: rarely are more than two or three people recommended for the next state of the recruitment process.
