Front Sight Firearms Training Institute Encourages More Than Just Unarmed Training

By: Jayden Adams

Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, the largest firearms training academy in America recently recognized and congratulated Pittsburgh area schools for their decision to train teachers in unarmed self-defense. Front Sight, no stranger to self-defense training, admires the decision to empower teachers to protect the children they're trusted to educate every day.

Front Sight realizes the enormous onus which is put upon teachers, and Front Sight expects citizens to recognize that it is us who put that onus, that responsibility upon the teachers. Teachers are by far one of the most trusted, necessarily responsible people in America today. We entrust our students to teachers for more than seven hours a day. We trust the teachers of America to inculcate and train our students wisely and well. And yet very few schools - with the exception of districts like the one near Pittsburgh - do anything effective to keep the teachers safe from the very potentially real problem of school shootings.

Every American not living under a rock is familiar with the problem of school shootings here in America today. Almost once a week we hear of another school shooting, a horrendous, vile crime which horrifies everyone. Many people cry out for a solution, and the Pittsburgh schools, specifically those in Allegheny County, have finally done something to stem the violence.

Front Sight acknowledges the wisdom in hiring a professional as Allegheny County did to train the teachers of local schools in unarmed self-defense. Unarmed self-defense is an invaluable tool against armed and unarmed assailants when one is caught entirely off-guard, without a weapon of one's own. Front Sight, however, encourages Americans to see that unarmed self defense is only necessary when one is not armed, and it is therefore much less efficient and effective than armed self defense.

Front Sight, and its founder and director Ignatius Piazza, train thousands of students every year in defensive handgun training, self defense training which is specifically addressed to training students in how to handle dangerous situations they find themselves forced into and how to survive them. Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight argue that it is defensive handgun training and concealed carry training which will turn the situation around in schools, not unarmed self defense training.

Ignatius Piazza, though a strong supporter of unarmed self-defense training, is a stronger proponent of handgun training, specifically defensive handgun training and concealed carry training. Ignatius Piazza holds that concealed carry training, coupled with unarmed self defense training and a Concealed Weapons Permit and a weapon, a single teacher could keep an entire wing of a school safe, to not even think of what an entire staff of fully trained, responsible, armed teachers could do.

The teachers would not be police officers or even peace officers, they would not change in their duties and tasks as teachers, though their capacity to handle dangerous situations and potentially murderous students would keep schools and students safe. Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight are very happy to hear that schools in Pittsburgh are getting self defense training for their teachers, they only wish that officials could see the value in firearms training, defensive handgun training, and arming the teachers in order to keep our future's leaders safe.
