Free site traffic from search engine optimization.

Whenever you are searching for anything on the web, the chances are that you use search engines to find what you are looking for. So, when you are running your search in Google, for example, have you ever paused a moment to wonder how it is that some websites are able to achieve such outstanding search engine rankings?

That is, imagine that you are searching for a product related to diabetes. So, you punch in 'diabetes' to the Google search box, and see that there are XXX million results shown at the top of the page.

However, on the page that you see in front of you, there are only 10 results out of all those many millions that Google originally found. If your diabetes related website was to appear on this first page, then it is not hard to imagine just how many thousands of searchers would almost automatically become visitors to your site.

Even appearing on the second page of the results will be no major disaster, as research has indicated that most searchers who have a serious need of knowledge will often look at least this far.

But, of course, that tends to be as far as they will go meaning that, if you are on page five or six, you might as well not be there at all.

However, imagine that you not only managed to achieve a top 10 rating in the Google search results, but also managed a similar thing with most of the other major search engines like MSN and Yahoo. Then, given your prominence in each of the top three search engines, you could anticipate significantly increased revenues from your site, simply because of the number of new visitors that you would expect to see every day.

It would simply be natural that, should your site appear on the first search page in all the major engines, then you cannot fail to make money every day, and all that money will have been generated by free advertising!

So, it should be fairly irrelevant what you product or service is, such a picture should represent something of a perfect vision for you.

It does not, however, have to remain an impossible dream. It does not take a lot of money, or any special talents or training to achieve consistent top-10 search engine results.

You should, however, avoid wasting money on 'instant success' products that promise to skyrocket your site to top-10 search engine results almost overnight. Do not be tempted to spend your hard earned money unnecessarily in this way.

Because, as crazy as it will no doubt sound, this is exactly what lots of online business people actually do, without ever understanding that many of these products will actually focus on using tactics and techniques that are forbidden by the search engines themselves. What this therefore means is that instead of your site becoming an instant success, it is, in fact, the quickest way of having your site banned by the search engines entirely.

If, however, you know the correct techniques to apply then driving free traffic to your web site by using what are known as search engine optimization techniques is not that difficult. Also, because these techniques are completely 'white hat' for the search engines, such methods of web site promotion achieve longer-term results as well.

Put another way, using the correct methods will provide your site with a naturally increasing stream of visitors, but, of course, there can be no guarantee that you always maintain your top-10 position without further efforts.

Until quite recently, search engine optimization was the number one method for driving new visitors to your website without paying for them.

It is fair to say that this is no longer the case, as other traffic generation methods are now equally as effective as search engine optimization tactics. Nevertheless, this is not an excuse to skimp on the efforts necessary to make sure that your site is fully optimized, especially as it should take no more than an hour or two to do so.

Do not be under any false illusions about search engine optimization. There is no secret formula for creating free traffic, by using such techniques. It is a relatively simple, logical process, but it is equally something that needs to be done correctly from the outset if you genuinely hope to see your website hit the 'golden' target of a top-10 search engine ranking.
