Enhance Your Trips Abroad
By: Rod Tilton
One of my great passions is traveling as much as time and the old bank account will allow. Whether you travel alone or with others, there are certain tips that can really help. Here are a few.
1. Preserving Travel Experiences – Digital cameras are nice and all, but you need a long term memento from your trip. When it comes to preserving travel experiences, take a writing journal. Nomad Journals are the best around.
2. Stupid Foreigner Tricks – Locals sometimes like to have a joke at your expense. It usually has to do with food. Don’t eat strange stuff unless others are.
3. Traveler Fanny Packs – Fanny packs are a very popular option for holding important documents such as money, passports and so on. They also stick out like a target to thieves and pickpockets. Don’t wear them.
4. Garbage Bag Pants – Despite it being roasting in the summer, many historical sites will require you to wear pants to enter. You can usually rent garbage bag pants around these areas. They look like pants, but are made of the garbage bag material.
5. Is Spicy Food Safe? – There is a belief among travelers that spicy food will not cause stomach issues. Umm, no. It just adds a little heat to the misery.
6. Wrinkle Free Pants – Always take a pair of wrinkle free pants. You can roll them up to save space. You will need them to enter churches, museums and other places.
7. Taking Travel Guide Books - If you are traveling to multiple destinations, travel guide books can become an issue. Simply put, they are heavy. Pack one for the first destination. You can trade books with other travelers you meet.
8. Solo Travelers and Hostels – If you are traveling by yourself, you may eventually need some social time with other travelers. Hostels are the place to get it.
9. Seeing Europe with Children – If you are traveling to Europe and are taking kids, hotels and hostels can be a pain. Try renting a villa and exploring the area around it. They are much cheaper than you think.
10. Keep Kids Interested – Kids get bored when traveling from one destination to another. Video games are annoying to those around you, so try something else to keep them interested. A Nomad Travel Journal is a great idea.
Ultimately, we all find different things in our trips. Whatever your preference, you can only get it by jumping out there and going. Don’t procrastinate, just go.
